I originally found this here: www.facebook.com/notes/y-en-el… but it's in Spanish. With the help of Google Translator, I shall do my best to translate it into English. I couldn't find the original letter anywhere else.
I'm warning you now, the translation may be a bit difficult to understand.
Here's that kid's letter:
"I wrote this letter to everyone who has unleashed a torrent of abuse towards me that has become increasingly strained, reaching the physical point during one of my last concerts. Leaving aside what may be an isolated incident (the impact with the bottle that I received), I will focus on young people using the Internet to express their aversion to my music and my person, which I can no longer tolerate.
The people to whom I refer are followers of a style of music they call heavy metal. These adolescents are violent, express themselves poorly and live their lives as a punishment, something bad. I just want to spread the world of music with my happiness and they try to cloud my work with their mournful thoughts. I never disrespected them. I have never mentioned them until now, because I, like any human being, have a limit of what I can tolerate and what I can't.
I have discovered that many people of this nefarious group are willing to have YouTube delete my videos. At learning this, I felt very bad. And bad for you, whose desire is to restrict the freedom of expression of an artist, which I am. Is it good to suppress what you dislike? Your Machiavellian plan will not succeed, Youtube will not delete a runaway success that is good fun, like my songs.
Moreover, I inform you that although I have nothing against you except for how you have hurt me, I profusely reject metal. Why? Because the music is dark, violent, and dull and encourages young people to walk the path of sin and become increasingly enclosed in a melancholy reverie, melodramatic and pointless. I will not lie, I heard metal bands and have rejected them.
To give an example, I will mention Metallica. The singer, Hetfield, is mediocre and shouts excessively, completely lacking the melody with which I was born. And the guitarist only makes noise. Where is the music, then? Another band that I've also heard is Megadeth. I thought it was different, but I was wrong. The singer uses a vocal style that I dislike, like something that makes me feel like crying. And the other musicians in the band... I'd rather not give an opinion.
But beware, this is not aggression; it is a constructive criticism based on the many years of vocal training I've had, thanks to which I have become what I am. In short, live and let live. Coexist. Support diversity. If you respect me, I will respect you.
Your friend, Justin"
NOTE: This is a translation, so they might not be his exact words.
Here is Jame's Hetfield's reply (also translated).
"I have seen the need to respond to the insults received yesterday from Justin Bieber, since his words have hurt my pride for referring to my art and my music negatively. The truth is, I felt really bad last night when I learned this because with all my years in music, I don't know what to do. I honestly do not know that all my years in this career have been disqualified by inexperienced people moving masses in a way that does not please me.
Technically, I could have taken legal action. But I choose not to, due to the boy's age... I will not torment him with a legal procedure. My sources have informed me that [Dave] Mustaine [from Megadeth], who is in his own right, has decided to take legal action but I doubt he will continue. We know that Dave is temperamental, but he has a good heart and this boy knows not what he says.
I'm not criticizing my colleague for going as low as him, but the only thing I do wanna say is [for Bieber to] have respect, which is what he lacks. He should learn that a momentary and transitory success does not rewrite the history of music. I also want to say that he has a huge future ahead and should use discretion. Not for him to impose the market.[?]
What struck me, of course, is your criticism of my public, to whom I owe everything because they made me who I am. They helped me achieve the transformation from being a nobody to being James Hetfield from Metallica. You cannot classify them as depressed, melodramatic, and dark. By doing that, you are trying to say that our style of music influences them to feel hatred. In the end, you're completely disqualifying our [musical] style.
But I know you have not said that with the intention of starting a fight. I think those were not your words, but the words of the people who give you work.
In regards to your accident with the person who threw the bottle, I completely reject this behavior because it is a symbol of ignorance and total disrespect for the person who is on stage, giving everything to entertain the public and even give a bit of joy that illuminates their lives.
The letter is short because I saw the need to respond, but I have time to spend on better things, like spending it with my family.
I hope this war of words has been ended now. I send you warm greetings and welcome you to visit the band on our upcoming concerts. I hope nobody is offended by this, and if so, it was not my intention.
With Love. James"
Keep in mind, these may not be Hetfield's exact words. They were translated from Spanish.
Wow, I can't believe that a spunky little twat who entirely relies on auto tuning is commenting on Hetfield's voice. Even using auto tune, B-boy isn't nearly as good as Hetfield's raw voice.
I also think it's amazing that he, a boy who spits on his fans (literally) dares to speak about respect. I honestly hope he further provokes Hetfield so I can watch the child get crushed.
I do love the level headedness Hetfield handled this with though. Sick burn, man.
Also, B-child is NOT a artist. Otherpeople write his lyrics for him, and he talks them into an auto tuner. If he wrote his own lyrics, he would be an artist. He doesn't. He isn't.
every band from different genre should be able to know what song was made by without an accidental Law suit
But the problem is, many people here used Metal in a wrong way. They claim to be best Metal fans, dress on its fashion and doing riot things, like vandalism, mugging, etc. It really gave Metal genre a bad name, and I'm really sad about it. Those people should love Bieber instead of Metal.
One part that actually made me laugh out loud is when he said he was writing that letter as "Constructive criticism". As if he has the balls to constructively criticize someone who has been in the music industry since the 80's, done countless world tours and has accumulated more fans around the world and sold (not to mention recorded) more albums in the last 30 years than I'm guessing he ever will in his entire career. The fact that he became so famous, so quickly and at such a young age, means he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He hasn't had to work for it like other "artists" have. (I quoted the word artist because I barely see him as one. Eddie Van Halen on the other, one HELL of an artist). Which brings me to my next point: "I, like any human being, have a limit of what I can tolerate and what I can't." He must not have a very high level of tolerance if he's freaking out over a water bottle being thrown at his head. Try having a beer bottle thrown at you by drunken rednecks while you're making 100 bucks for the night (which you have to split between your band, and most of it goes to new gear) and then sleeping in a van packed with your gear and band mates and then head off to the next shitty little town to play where your getting more shit thrown at you until you've eventually worked hard enough and long enough that one of your demo tapes gets picked up by a producer who just happens to like what they heard barely enough to give you a shitty little record deal where you made dick all from the sales. That's how 90% of the bands who are still alive and kicking today from the 60's, 70's, and 80's, the REAL artists, that's how come they are still as famous today as they were back then.
Beiber hasn't earned what they earned.
Well ,I am a metal fan
Yes ,I do feel angry sometimes
I do love fighting ,but only when my opponent want to ,and no hard feeling after that ( it's kind of a complicated twisted men's friendship I can not explain )
I do feel like smashing something
I do ( rarely) want to kill some morons that pissed me off
But hey ,I did nothing to get me in jail
Just because he hate musics other than his ,he rich and famous ,so he has the right to insult our music ?
I hate rap songs ,yet I never insult any rapper or their song
See how Mr Jams respond to his insult ? he act like a man ,so does his music ,is that somehow dark, violent, and dull and encourages young people to walk the path of sin and become increasingly enclosed in a melancholy reverie, melodramatic and pointless ?
To you ,Mr.Bieber ( see ,respect)
Live on your rainbow and let us enjoy our moments of actually thinking about something ,just sing your song to your fans ,count your money ,have sex with your girls , enjoy your oh so meaningful life and stay away from the music that you think are dark, violent, and dull and encourages young people to walk the path of sin and become increasingly enclosed in a melancholy reverie, melodramatic and pointless
And I agree with your previous comment. Justin Bieber's a moron, and now he's trying to be "cool" by saying One and Fade To Black by Metallica are his "jams". And did I mention that he also thought "School's Out" was by Black Sabbath? And when the reporter corrected him & told him it was by Alice Cooper, JB said, "No way, man! Ozzy wrote that song!" -_-
That kid will be irrelevant in a few years' time, I'm sure of it.
That is my honest opinion in letter form. Sorry if it's wrong. XD
NOTE: Rock's been around since 40s, metals been around since the late 60s
